2016 New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival

The New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival is a festival of contemporary solo & chamber works. It affords an opportunity for contemporary composers to work with professional musicians during the rehearsal process and have their original compositions performed during an intense four-day festival. All compositions will be eligible for the Black Bayou Composition Award monetary prize.

Interested in participating in the 2016 Summer Jazz Camp held in Shreveport?

Christopher Allen will be presenting his 4th Annual Summer Jazz Camp this June. If you know young musicians who are interested in jazz or just want to be better musicians please recommend this camp to them. There will also be some free jazz concerts in conjunction with the camp that we know you will love. Below is some information about the camp and the concerts.

Week 1:  June 20 – 25
Week 2:  June 27 – July 2
Camp Location:  LSU-Shreveport, Bronson Hall, 1st Floor

Registration Deadline:  June 15, 2016
Cost per week:  $160
Early Registration : Early Bird Special #2:  $150 per week, Deadline May 31

Camp sessions are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, with concerts being held Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. as noted below.

Student Requirements:
Knowledge of their instrument of choice
Must bring their own instrument and music stand
Must have completed at least one year of study on the instrument
Must know one/two octave scales (major and minor) on the instrument

Louisiana Jazz Camp supports the future generation of jazz lovers and enthusiasts, and fosters and preserves Louisiana’s cultural heritage. Jazz Camp is a collaboration of the Shreveport Summer Music Festival, Project String Power Inc., and Louisiana State University Shreveport. Jazz Camp serves to enhance local music education programs and music curriculum, and also the musical knowledge, skills, and performances of student participants. Jazz Camp is an annual event, and we look forward to many future jazz-filled summers.
