Program Notes for Bagatelles for Violoncello by Mel Mobley

Bagatelles for Violoncello is a lighthearted work using the expressive nature of the cello to evoke contrasting moods in five short movements. While using several different compositional techniques, the goal was to avoid reliance on extended performance techniques or an overabundance of inaccessible pitch and rhythm structures. Instead, the hope is that the sound of the instrument and the performer become the focus of the performance.
